1. Choose your Lisbon station
Most southbound long-distance trains use Lisboa Oriente, and some also serve Entrecampos. Oriente is usually simplest with luggage because it has metro, taxi, and rideshare access plus elevators and a large concourse. Confirm the station printed on your ticket.

2. Ride south to Tunes
Book the long-distance Alfa Pendular or Intercidades service shown by CP. The ride crosses the Tagus and continues through the Alentejo before reaching the Algarve. Reserved seating makes this the easy part of the day.

3. Change trains at Tunes
Lagos is on the Algarve regional line, so the typical journey requires a transfer at Tunes. Follow signs and platform displays for the regional train toward Lagos. Keep children and luggage together; the regional train may have fewer luggage racks.

4. Arrive in central Lagos
Lagos station sits beside the marina, across the water from the old town. Many central stays are walkable, but a short taxi is worthwhile with large bags, tired children, or lodging uphill.
Which train should a family choose?
Choose the itinerary with the cleanest connection rather than the absolute earliest arrival. Alfa Pendular is generally the faster premium service; Intercidades is comfortable and may fit your schedule better. Both long-distance services use reserved seats. The final Tunes-to-Lagos leg is regional.

Leave Lisbon after breakfast, carry lunch or buy it before boarding, and keep the Lagos arrival day deliberately empty. After checking in, walk the marina or old town and have dinner nearby. Save beaches, Ponta da Piedade, and boat excursions for the next day.
